“Put Him Back into the Asylum! Put Him Back into the Asylum!” Lila Coombs shouted as she waved a placard in front of the Agnews Insane Asylum in Santa Ana County, California. Norman Bates, famous for his psychotic killing of six people while wearing his mother’s wig. Five years after his incarceration in the insane asylum, Norman was being released on the basis that his psychosis was manageable and he was no longer a threat to the people around him. Lila, whose sister Marion was one of the more famous victims, however, had a different opinion. “I cannot believe that they are releasing him,” She shouted, more to herself than to the crowd which included the families of Norma’s victims, all of whom were also protesting Norma’s release. The giant doors of the asylum suddenly opened, and Norman emerged from the depths of the asylum into the bright sunlight accompanied by two officers. Suddenly, part of the crowd began to scream "Murderer" at him, and someone threw ketchup which hit Norman's impassive face. The Police officers rushed him to the waiting Police car. Lila rushed to the car and started banging on the window "You killed my sister, and you tried to kill me! You do not deserve to be free!" she shouted. Norman continued to look forward with a blank expression on his face as the car sped away. The two police officers Officer James and Officer Frank talked in a low tone as they drive towards the Bates Motel. “Why would they let such a psycho out into the world?” Frank asked. “Apparently after extensive medication, he now okay,” said James. “Do you honestly believe that?” Frank exclaimed. “Keep your voice down! He can hear you back there,” Said James. He looked back at Norman who continued to stare straight ahead with a blank expression. “Whatever they did, they most certainly made him as quiet as death,” said James. “Careful now, you may trigger him with such words,” chuckled Frank. “Ah!, Here we are, the Psycho House and Hotel!” he exclaimed.
They took Norman to the doorstep and promptly left him there without a word or looking back. Norman reacted for the first time, looking at his house and the motel, whose new owner had not changed anything since he last saw it. “We are back in business,” he whispered to himself as he turned the doorknob. The Bates Motel was run by Michael and Liam Armstrong, a gay couple that took over the hotel after Norman was placed in the asylum. The motel became famous, and the couple has made a tidy sum from the high tourist volume. This was in spite of the Motel being located on a relatively isolated part of the Interstate. The return of Norman Bates, however, filled them with a sense of apprehension. While the motel was theirs, the house was not, meaning that Norman Bates would be their neighbor. This was what was worrying Michael as he pored over the revenue that had made that week. Liam was also in the office, looking at the Bates house, hoping to see some movement near the window. “I mean, come on, I doubt he would have been released if he wasn’t fine. If I remember correctly, he never had any memory of the murders he committed. Maybe the condition he had was treated successfully in the asylum.” Michel flipped a page of the file he was poring through. “Ever heard of recidivism? He will probably murder us in our beds if we are not careful,” he said. “But he is our neighbor, whether we like it or not. And giving people a second chance is not a bad thing," said Liam. "Your heart is in the right place, and I know where you are coming from, but I have a feeling that he is not someone we are meant to befriend,” said Michael. “Oh well…” Liam sighs as he leaves the window, not noticing Norman had opened his curtain just a crack and was staring at the spot where he had been standing.
“Just where are you going?” Sam Loomis asked as he watched Lila hurriedly throw some clothes into a large suitcase. "That man is out, and I am sure that it is only a matter of time before he kills again," Lila said as she started rummaging through the drawers. After her sister's death and their teaming up to bring down Norman Bates, Sam and Lila had become a couple. Sam, however, wanted to move on from the incident and build a life with Lila. “We have discussed this before and even checked with law enforcement. Norman Bates is no longer a threat to anyone,” said Sam in a frustrated tone. “People like him can fool others into believing that they have reformed, but I know better. Come with me!” Lila pleaded. “So you want us to do what? Stay at the Bates Motel and wait for Norman to kill again? That could take years if it happened at all!” said Simon. "As I said, it is just a matter of time Simon," Lila said as she finished packing up. Simon made a deep sigh and turned towards the door. "Then you go on your own, I will not have any part in this,” He said as he left the room and closed the door behind him. Tara and Cole Jackson were a newly married young Black couple that was touring the western states as part of their honeymoon. They decided to visit the Bates Motel after hearing about the killings that had taken place at the hotel. They were most curious about the murderer himself. “So, he used to dress up like his mother when he stabbed his victims? That is clearly a sign of insanity!" said Tara as she pored over the leaflets outside the hotel. “Even worse, his mother had died and was found mummified inside the house. Imagine how that must have smelled like, living with a corpse in the house” Cole said as Tara gave him a look of slight disgust as he laughed. "You have some of the weirdest thoughts," said Tara. "Which is why you love me," said Cole. Liam opened the door of the motel. “Welcome to Bates Motel, or as some of you call it, Psycho House!” He said as he helped them with their bags. Michael joined his husband and the couple in the lobby. “We hope that you enjoy your stay. Anything that you need, my husband and I are at your service,” he said. “We want to know more about the place. Is it true that Norman Bates is now back at the Bates house?” Cole asked excitedly. “Norman Bates is right here,” said Norman as he emerged into the lobby.
“You all look surprised to see me. I thought I was a celebrity," Norman said in an apparent attempt in breaking the ice. It was working poorly. Liam and Michael's faces went pale while Tara moved a step back. Cole moved in front of Tara as if to protect her. Michael was the first to recover.
“How the hell did you get in here?” He asked in a slightly shaky voice. “I lived here all my life. I have my ways and means,” Norman said with a creepy grin on his face. “You no longer own this place. You cannot just come here unannounced,” Michael said, his voice rising with every syllable. Norman had stopped smiling and was glaring at Michael. "Hey. Hey. Calm down," said Liam who was looking at Michael with a worried look on his face. He then turned to Norman. "Is there anything we can help you with? Did you leave anything at the motel that you need?" He asked. "I just wanted to meet the new owners of the place. I can see you get plenty of customers. I used to get only one or two every other day," Norman said while intensely staring at Cole and Tara "Then promptly murder them in the shower," Cole muttered under his breath. Tara, however, heard him and gave him a warning look. "If that is the case, then we would like to ask you to leave," Michael said. "Why are you so hostile? I haven't done anything to you,” Norman said while glaring at Michael once more. "Yet," muttered Cole, this time loud enough for everyone to hear.

There was a shocked silence; then Norman turned his attention to Cole. “I was not in control at that time. You cannot blame me for…” He said while approaching Cole who took a combative stance. "Touch me, and I will kill you just like those people you killed," He said while clenching his fists. "Cole. Calm down and let's go to our room" Tara said as she tried to push Cole away from Norman and towards the corridor that led to the rooms. "You should help them with that. "Liam told Michael. "But…" Michael started before he saw the look on Liam's face. Norman's face looked slightly feverish as if he was suffering from a high fever and his hands were shaking. “Let me escort you to the door” Liam offered to Norman. Norman obediently followed Liam to the door where he turned to look at Liam. Liam then gave him a slightly sympathetic look.“Look, I have no problem whatsoever with you. However, I think that it would be best if you avoided coming to the motel. I know you grew up here, and this motel has a special place in your heart, but it is no longer your property. I do not wish to have another incident like the one we have just had so please." Liam then slowly shut the door. Norman's expression went blank, and like a zombie, he walked up the steps towards the Bates Manor. “Please come back home,” Sam’s voice boomed in the car as Lila drove on the Interstate. "I will call you when I reach the motel," Lila said as she hang up. "For all I know, he has already started his murder spree," she muttered as she increased her speed. In the Bates Manor, Norman was sobbing as he looked at himself in the bathroom mirror. His hands suddenly started shaking strongly. “It is coming. Oh God, It is coming back again!” he said with a shocked look on his faith. “AAAH!” He cried out before his sobbing expression went blank. His eyes acquired a reddish glint and a sinister smile spread on his face.
Lila hurriedly parked in the Bates Motel parking lot and then rushed to the motel lobby “Wow Wow Wow, lady. Where are you rushing to?” Michael who was at the reception desk asked. “Is he here?” she asked looking around frantically. “Who are you looking for? Michael asked. “Obviously for Norman Bates,” said Liam who came out of the office to check out who was causing all of the commotion. “Norman is at his house if you are looking for him. He no longer owns the Bates Motel," Michael informed her. “The question is, why are you looking for him so urgently?” "Well, I'll be goddammed!" Michael exclaimed after Lila told him and Liam her story. "Did he behave in an odd manner when he came here?" she asked. "Well, he was behaving oddly, but I assumed that it was the medication he is on," said Liam. Lila pursed her lips and said, "I have a feeling that he does not do well under emotional stress and from what you have told me, he is under a lot of emotional stress right now. That might break him again. You have to be on your guard. So do the guests." Michael went to the office and came out with a shotgun. "You don't have to worry about that. I have everything under control," he said. Lila smiled "Well then! I would like a room please." As she moved from the office to the reception desk in the lobby, she heard a small creak from the ceiling. "What was that!" she asked loudly. "Don't worry! It is an old motel. It has been creaking and groaning since we came here." "Oh, Okay," said Lila while looking up at the ceiling with a worried look.
Norman knew the Bates Motel like the back of his hand, including ways to gain access to various spaces in between walls and ceilings. This had been very useful when he had been spying on various guests. Now in his psychotic state and with an ax on his back, he had managed to enter the space in between the walls of the office and had managed to silently climb it to the ceiling. He then listened to the conversation below and heard every single word of the conversation between Lila, Michael, and Liam. "You think you are so clever huh? Wait and see." He whispered. However, as he crawled towards the direction of the rooms, the ceiling he was lying on made a soft creak. "What was that!" he heard Lila shout. He stayed completely still. He then heard Liam reassure Lila then heard her footsteps as she headed towards one of the rooms. He also heard Liam and Michael talking and chuckling as they went through some paperwork. After an hour of staying put in the same area. He heard Michael and Liam leave the office and head towards the Master Suite, which they had converted to become their bedroom. "Time to kill, Time to Slice," he whispered to himself. He moved towards the room area and found himself in between the ceiling space of room 013. Tara and Cole were busy making love with Cole on top. As such, none of them noticed Norman had opened the ceiling and was staring right at them. When Tara opened her eyes while looking up, she saw Norman and started to scream. Norman snarled and jumped from the ceiling, drawing his ax as he did so.
"What the…," Cole said. Before he could finish his sentence, however, he was beheaded by Norman. Blood sprayed all over the white sheets and on Tara who was screaming at the top of her voice. As Norman turned towards Tara with a bloody ax in his hand, Michael stormed in with his shotgun. He shot at Norman who managed to dodge the bullet. The vase next to the bed exploded. Norman grabbed a chair and threw it at Michael, who was forced to dodge it. This gave Norman the opportunity to advance on him. "Die!" Norman screamed as he drove his ax into Michael's belly. Michael's eyes widened, and blood gurgled from his lips. Norman grabbed the shotgun. Lila emerged from her room with a handgun and shot at Norman. Norman, in turn, used the shotgun and fired in her direction. "Michael!" Liam shouted from the corner of the master bedroom and the room corridor. “He is dead you dimwit!” Norman shouted with savage pleasure. Liam wailed in grief. Just then, Lila managed to shoot Norman on the shoulder. “Aaaah!"Norman shouted. Tara was completely immobilized still soaked in Cole's blood. Norman shot at Lila again; he managed to shoot her in the arm. At that point, Tara jumped at Lila's scream of pain and started to move. She grabbed a nearby stool and hit Norman with it. Norman's expression changed from that of triumph to surprise; then his eyes rolled back as he slumped to the floor. “We should kill him right here right now, “said Liam as he tried not to sob. “That would make us no better than him,” said Lila. “I want him to rot in prison for life or even face the gas chamber with all of us watching.” “What do you think Tara?” Liam asked, hoping for support. Tara looked uncertain. “It is too late. The Police are already here,” Lila said. Sure enough. The police and ambulance had arrived. Norman was reluctantly taken into the ambulance by the Paramedics alongside Lila who looked at him in disgust. “I hope we get to burn you at the stake,” she said as she spat on his face.
The outcome of the new Bates Hotel Murders not how Lila expected. Indeed, the trial, while widely publicized became a fiasco.During the trial, Liam, Lila, and Tara were left numb with disbelief as Norman Bates was once more declared insane and committed to an asylum. Norman's grinning face was splashed across every national newspaper. The coverage of the new murders also had a clear bias, which was not lost on Amanda Jackson, Cole’s mother.
"I remember when the first victims were revealed. The entire country was in a frenzy. Now that the victims were a black man and a gay man, their lives somehow have been diminished? I mean, these were people!" She wailed at the reporters who were covering the trial, clearly castigating them for emphasizing on the identities of the murder victims rather than on the person who had done it.
“I cannot believe this justice system. Why do they keep committing him to an asylum with the option of parole? He will come out and do this again,” said Lila with a note of frustration in her voice. “We should have killed him when we had the chance,” said Liam with a steely voice.
“Liam I…,” Lila started. “No, Lila. Just No.” he said as he stood up and left. Tara looked at Lila. “Next time he gets out, I will be waiting for him. He will pay for my husband's death,” she said. “I agree with you,” Lila said. Tara turned to look at her. “This was not justice.” Tara gave her a long stare and nodded. She then stood up and went to comfort her mother in law. She then gave Lila a look of understanding as she escorted Amanda out of the courtroom, leaving Lila with her own thoughts.
